Hikkaduwa Police say that yesterday afternoon (13) a car collided with a train at the Hikkaduwa Dodanduwa railway crossing on the coastal railway line.
Police also say that the Viharadhipati Thero was travelling in a car that was going for an almsgiving, and collided with the train travelling from Matara to Vavuniya.
Residents of the area say that there is an electric light signal system at this railway crossing but it is not properly functioning. (Lankadeepa)
