Four more candidates including Namal Rajapaksha from the Samabima Party placed cash deposits for the upcoming Presidential election today (13) pushing the total number of candidates to 36.
According to the Election Commission, the candidates who placed deposits today are Dilith Jayaweera, Nuwan Bopage, Namal Rajapaksha from the Samabima Party and Chaminda Anuruddha.
Other prominent candidates include President Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Sajith Premadasa of the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’, Sarath Fonseka (Independent candidate) and Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People’s Power.
The Election Commission officially announced that the Presidential election will be held on September 21.
