The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won by 2 runs against the Irish team in the first practice match aimed at the Women’s World Cup 2023. The Sri Lankan women’s cricket team led by Chamari Athapattu batted first and scored 149 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, while the Irish team could collect only 147 runs.
Opening batsman Harshita Samarawickrama scored an unbeaten 56 runs for the Sri Lankan team. Harshita, who batted throughout the Sri Lankan innings, faced 47 balls for her innings, out of which she directed seven balls to the boundary. Harshita shared a 46-run partnership with Chamari Athapattu for the first wicket and an 87-run partnership with Vishmi Gunaratne for the second wicket.
Chasing a target of 150 runs for victory, the Irish team needed to score 4 runs in the last over and in that over bowled by Sugandhika Kumari, the Irish players could only score 2 runs. Inoka Ranaweera and Oshadhi Ranasinghe took 3 wickets each for the Sri Lankan team.
However, in the last half of the Irish innings, No. 9 batsman Arlen Kelly scored 30 runs in 17 balls with two fours and two sixes to bring Ireland close to victory and she was run out in the last over.
