In the 5th match of the 2023 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament, the Sri Lankan women’s team managed to record a 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh. Chasing a target of 127 runs to win the match, the Sri Lanka women’s team passed their winning target after losing 3 wickets at the end of 18.2 overs.
The Bangladesh women’s team, who won the toss and batted first, scored 126 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Chamari Athapattu, who played the reply innings, lost for 15 runs and Vishmi Gunaratne for one run, while Harshita Samarawickrama and Nilakshi de Silva managed to build an unbroken 104-run partnership from 79 balls for the fourth wicket. Harshita scored an unbeaten 69 off 50 balls with six and eight fours. Nilakshi scored 41 runs (38) without defeat.
With this victory, the Sri Lanka women’s team came to the front of the first group by winning both the matches played so far.
