According to hospital sources, a mother of four poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire and her husband, who went to put it out, was burnt and admitted to the Kalutara Teaching Hospital.
The police said that a married couple, aged 28 and 24, residing at Samath Mawatha in Beruwala, have been taken to the hospital.
Due to a dispute between the two, a conversation took place this afternoon and the wife poured kerosene in a plastic can on her body and set herself on fire, police said.
When her body caught fire, the husband also sustained burns while trying to put out the fire, police said.
Both have been admitted to the Kalutara Theekshana Teaching Hospital, and the condition of the wife is quite serious, said a hospital spokesperson. (Lankadeepa)
