It is reported that 207 people died and nearly 1000 people were injured when two passenger trains collided in India. Media reports that the death toll may rise as the condition of the injured is serious.

The accident took place in Balasore district of Odisha. It is said that the two trains collided with each other due to a signal error. The Railway Department says that it will start a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The media reports that the train carriages were thrown out of the railway track and overturned.

Coromandel Express and Yashwanthpur Express from Kolkata to Chennai were involved in the accident. It is also said that another freight train collided with the two trains where the accident took place. It is also reported that 600 rescue personnel were deployed to rescue the people trapped in the cabins. (ANI)
