The Department of Meteorology says that there is a high possibility of the low-pressure zone in the southeast Bay of Bengal sea area reaching the east coast of the island on February 1.
Due to its effect, rains may occur on the island from today (January 30) evening, especially in the North, East, Uva, North Central and Central provinces from time to time. The department mentioned that very heavy rains of around 150 mm may occur in some places.
Scattered rain or thundershowers may occur in many areas throughout the island during the evening or night.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
