The Department of Meteorology says that a slight increase in rainfall is expected in the southwestern part of the island today (25) and tomorrow (26). The department stated that occasional rain or thundershowers may occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Heavy rains of more than 50 mm may occur in some places in the Western Province and Galle and Matara districts, and several showers may occur in the North-Western Province. In Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers at a few places in the evening or at night.
In the western slopes of the central mountains, and in the North-Central Province, Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, the winds blowing occasionally can become gusty between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
