The Department of Meteorology says that the pressure depression in the South West Bay of the Bengal sea area is located 370 km northeast of Trincomalee.
This system has the potential to pass through Sri Lanka in the next 48 hours and due to this, an increase in rain and wind conditions is expected in many parts of the island on the 24th and 25th of December said the department.
Occasional rain may occur in Northern, Eastern, Uva and North-Central provinces, while scattered rain or thundershowers may occur in other areas during the evening or night.
In North, East, West, Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, the winds are blowing from time to time per km. There is a possibility of strong winds around (40-50).
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
