According to the Department of Meteorology, the depression, which was centred at 11.4N latitude and 84.6E longitude, about 540 km northeast of Jaffna along the southwest Bay of Bengal, will gradually weaken and move towards the northwest.
The department said that there is a high possibility of this system reaching the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast in the next 24 hours.
Occasional winds in North, North-Central and Eastern Provinces. There is a possibility of strong winds around (40-50) kmph.
There may be some rain in the western and southern coastal areas and in the northern province, while the rest of the island will have mainly rainless weather conditions.
