The wind speed in the sea areas around the island is from the southwest direction. The Department of Meteorology says that it can be around (20-35).
From Puttalam to Kankasanthurai through Mannar and from Matara to Pothuvil through Hambantota, the wind speed in the offshore areas can be increased up to (40-50) kmph from time to time.
