The Department of Meteorology says that occasional rain or thundershowers may occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and Galle and Matara districts today (14). The department states that some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts may experience heavy rains of more than 75 mm.
It is further stated in the announcement that there may be several periods of rain in the rest of the provinces and the winds blowing from time to time over the island may become strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
