Today (June 12) Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts will experience rain or thunder from time to time and heavy rain of about 75 mm may occur in some places, says the Meteorological Department.
The department stated that in the Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts, rain or thundershowers may occur at places in the evening or at night, and in the North-West and Central provinces, there may be several periods of rain.
In the western slopes of the Central Highlands, in the Northern and North-Central Provinces, Hambantota, Puttalam and Trincomalee districts, occasional gusty winds of 40 to 45 km/h may occur.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
