The Department of Meteorology says that the Southwest Monsoon has fully established over the island. The department stated that rain or thundershowers may occur from time to time in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (09).
In some places in Sabaragamuwa province, Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Colombo districts, heavy rains of more than 100 mm may occur and in the North-West province, there may be several periods of rain. In Uva Province and Ampara and Batticaloa Districts, scattered rain or thundershowers may occur in the evening or at night, while in the Northern and North-Central Provinces and in Hambantota, Puttalam and Trincomalee Districts, winds blowing from time to time may become strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
