The Department of Meteorology says that there may be scattered showers or thundershowers in many parts of the island today (May 4) after 1.00 pm. The department said rain may also occur in the morning in the Western and North-Western provinces, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts.
Some places in Eastern, Uva, North-Central and North-West provinces may experience heavy rains of more than 75 mm and some places in the rest of the regions may get some heavy showers of about 50 mm. Also, the strong winds blowing occasionally in the western and southern coastal areas may increase to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
