The Department of Meteorology says that it is expected that the Southwest Monsoon will gradually establish over the island in the next few days. Today (04) Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces will experience occasional rain or thundershowers. The department stated that some places in Sabaragamuwa province and Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts may experience heavy rains of more than 75 mm.
There may be several periods of rain in the North-West Province and few places in Uva and Eastern Provinces may experience rain or thundershowers in the evening or at night. Strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour can occur across the island from time to time. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
