The Department of Meteorology says that it is expected that the Southwest Monsoon will gradually establish over the island today (03). Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces will experience rain or thundershowers from time to time. The department states that some places in Sabaragamuwa province and Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts may experience heavy rains of about 100 millimetres.
In Uva and Eastern Provinces, rain or thundershowers may occur in the evening or at night, and strong winds of 40 to 45 kilometres per hour may occur across the island from time to time. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
