The Department of Meteorology says that the current rain situation in the southwestern parts of the island is expected to continue today (03). The department stated that rains may occur from time to time in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-West and Northern provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
In Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, very heavy rains of more than 150 mm may occur in some places, while in Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts there may be scattered showers or thunderstorms in the evening or at night. In the western slopes of the central mountains, and in the North-Central Province, Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, the winds blowing from time to time can become gusty between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
