The Department of Meteorology says that there may be scattered showers or thunderstorms in many parts of the island today (2nd) after 2.00 pm. The department stated that some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara, Mannar and Jaffna districts may experience heavy rain of more than 75 mm.
The western and southern provinces and the coastal areas of Jaffna and Mannar districts may also experience some rain in the morning. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
