Today (14) is the Poson full moon poya day when the Sri Lankan Buddhist people perform Amisa and “Prathipaththi” poojas with great faith. As a result of the diplomatic friendship between King Dharmashoka and King Devanampiyatissa, Mihindu Maharahat came to Sri Lanka on this Poson Poya day.
In addition to the Mahindagamana, Poson full moon day is also considered to be a day of many important events in Sasana history, and it is said in Sasana history that it was on a day like today that the Buddha’s body spread out for the first time. The Buddhist people of this country celebrate Poson Pohoya by giving priority to Amisa and policy offerings.
