The Supreme Court today granted time to the Attorney General to submit objections related to the fundamental rights petitions filed by two activists stating that the police arrested them during the protests near the residence of former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Mirihana in March 2022.
When the petition was called today, Mr Shaminda Wickrama, the senior government lawyer who appeared for the Attorney General, informed the court that he was expecting to submit preliminary objections stating that it was not possible to proceed with the relevant petitions.
Accordingly, the three-judge panel, which ordered the Attorney General to file the relevant objections within four weeks, ordered the petition to be called on July 17 for reconsideration.
The petitions were considered before the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court consisting of Vijith Mallalgoda, A. H. M. D. Nawaz and Janak de Silva. (Divaina)
