The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has launched a three-day special dengue prevention and control programme aimed at curbing the spread of the disease.

The programme will be conducted from June 8 to June 10, covering 72 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across 12 districts, according to the NDCU.

Latest data released by the unit show that 36,168 dengue cases had been reported nationwide as of June 5, with the highest number of infections recorded in the Western Province.

Dengue cases have also been reported in the districts of Matara, Galle, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Puttalam, and Kandy.

Meanwhile, 20 dengue-related deaths have been reported so far this year, including three children, the NDCU stated.
