Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, says that if it is not possible to import the coal stock quickly, there is a possibility that the power cut will increase further by January.
He says that although 38 coal ships need to be imported for next year, only 06 coal ships have arrived in the country so far.
Accordingly, he points out that coal can only be imported from January to April 15th and even so, more than 20 ships cannot be imported.
Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, further stated that there is a risk of losing the required amount of coal in the next year and if the coal runs out, there is a basis for a long power cut like it was in January this year.
