Intervening with the diplomatic crisis created between Canada and India, the US government has asked India to provide assistance in the ongoing investigations regarding the allegations made by Canada.

A conflict between Canada and India has been created in connection with the shooting death of 45-year-old Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian Sikh activist, in June last year. According to the Indian government, Hardeep Singh is a leader of the separatist ‘Kalistani’ terrorist group. The ‘Kalistani’ terrorist group opposes the Hindu nationalist government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has alleged that agents of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government killed Hardeep Singh. The Indian government has vehemently denied these allegations and has ordered the Canadian ambassador and Canadian diplomats to leave India.

The Government of Canada is conducting a special investigation into the murder of Hardeep Singh and is seeking the assistance of the Government of India in the investigation. White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby explained in a press conference that the Canadian government’s allegations against the Indian government are serious and that India should support the Canadian government’s investigations.
