It should be made clear to everyone who thinks the Sun is yellow that this is untrue. This cosmic reality was proven on Tuesday by former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly.
The Sun is actually white; the dwarf star appears yellow most of the time because of an oddity in the physics of light that makes the Sun look yellow most of the time. In essence, the sun is a combination of all hues that, to our eyes, appear white. This is only apparent in pictures taken from orbit, though.
The sun seems yellow because of our surroundings. However, once the Sun is outside the Earth’s atmosphere, it appears white rather than any other hue. This has to do with how our eyes interpret color.
We can’t see a single color of the sun because the amount of sunlight simply saturates the photoreceptor cells in our eyes, causing all the colors to blend together. When all colors of light are combined, the outcome is white. As a result, while the sun appears yellow on Earth, it appears white in space. The hue of the Sun is also affected by the Earth’s atmosphere. – NDTV
