The police say that the seventeen-year-old son of a Kandy businessman was abducted and later released due to a business problem.
It has been revealed in the police investigation that the concerned cloth businessman, who is said to be a resident of the Hanthana area, had to pay an amount of 12 lakh rupees for the cloth he got from a cloth supplier and the debtor kept demanding it, but because he failed to pay it, the seventeen-year-old school student was kidnapped.
While the student was returning from attending a private tutoring class on Peradeniya Road, they came in a vehicle with three other persons and abducted the student, detained him in the Kadugannawa area and called the Kandy textile businessman and informed him that his son will not be released until the debt is paid.
After that, the student’s mother came to the Kandy headquarters police and lodged a complaint with the criminal division, and the police investigation started.
Chief Inspector of Police in charge of Kandy Headquarters, Mr Rasika Sampath called the mobile phone of the person who allegedly kidnapped the child and informed him to surrender to the police from a place where he was with the child. After taking the kidnapped student on a bus in the Kadugannawa area and sending him to the police, the police say that he fled.
It has been revealed in the police investigations that there was no accident to the student. (Lankadeepa)
