The Social Security Contribution Tax Act was passed in Parliament today (08) with a majority of 81 votes. There were 91 votes in favor of the bill and 10 votes against it.
Although the parties had agreed to pass this bill without polling, due to the addition of amendments to the relevant bill, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Dr. Harsha de Silva requested a debate.
Accordingly, after a debate, arrangements were made to hold this poll.
