Mr Shantha Herath, a senior lawyer, was elected as the new president of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court Bar Association for the year 2023/24.
The election for appointing the new board of officers was held yesterday (22) in the same court premises.

In the election for the post of chairman, Mr Senior Advocate Shanta Herath managed to win with the largest margin of votes in history.
Senior Advocate Sant Herat got 164 votes.
Mr Shantha Herath, who studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo and the Sri Lanka Law College, is a lawyer with almost 30 years of professional experience. He is also the former chairman of the Sri Lanka Fisheries Corporation.
Senior lawyer Jagath Abeynayake and lawyer Marvin de Silva were elected in the voting for two vice-presidential posts.
Lawyer Mrs Deepika Hettimulla for the post of secretary and Mr Padma Shrian Punchihewa for the post of treasurer were unopposed. (Lankadeepa)
