Sudath Chandrasekara, the senior advisor to the Sports Minister and member of the National Sports Council, has informed Arjuna Ranatunga in writing to resign immediately from the post of Chairman of the National Sports Council.
Sudath Chandrasekara also mentioned in the letter that he informed the Sports Minister that if Mr Arjuna Ranatunga continues to act as the Chairman of the National Sports Council, he will no longer be able to act as the Senior Advisor to the Sports Minister.
Although the National Sports Council was scheduled to meet yesterday, Sudath Chandrasekara said in the letter addressed to Arjuna Ranatunga shown that “all of us do not accept you as the President of the National Sports Council anymore” so none of the members of the National Sports Council attended through Zoom technology.
It consists of 15 members including the chairman of the National Sports Council and Sudath Chandrasekara, the senior advisor to the Minister of Sports is also a member of that council. However, it is also stated in the sources that only the Director General of Sports participated in the meeting called by Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday.
This National Sports Council was appointed last August under the chairmanship of Arjuna Ranatunga to provide the necessary instructions regarding sports to the Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe. (Divaina)
