A senior official of the Electricity Board said that the 2300 metric tons of ‘naphtha’ received by the Mineral Oil Corporation last Friday afternoon for the Kelanitissa Power Plant is only enough for three days and the operation of the Kelanitissa Power Plant from the 17th will be uncertain again.
Since the Electricity Board did not have the money to purchase ‘Naptha’, there was a risk of the power plant being disabled from last Friday, and the Petroleum Corporation saved itself from that risk by supplying 2300 metric tons of ‘Naptha’ that afternoon.
This situation has arisen because the Petroleum Corporation has decided to supply ‘Naptha’ only for hand money.
Kalanitissa Power Plant produces about 165 MW for the national electricity grid. (Lankadeepa)
