For the academic year 2023, the Ministry of Education will offer free textbooks to students in Government schools across the nation.

16,483 million rupees have been aside by the government for the purpose. For the State Printing Corporation to print 45% of the textbooks, Cabinet permission has been obtained. According to W.M. Balasooriya, Senior Director of Education for the Kurunegala District, 55% of the textbooks would be printed by the private sector. Susil Premayantha, the minister of education, has directed ministry officials to speed up the printing of textbooks for students before the start of the upcoming school year, 2023, according to Balasooriya, who spoke to a gathering of school heads from the Kurunegala district on Friday at the Kurunegala Provincial Education Office.
