While diving to look at the wreckage of the Titanic, the Oceangate Expeditions company’s small submarine ‘Titan’ went missing because it exploded under the pressure of the seabed, according to the US Coast Guard and the US Navy.
The ‘Titan’ submarine consisting of five people started diving to the bottom of the sea on the last 18th night. The wreckage of the ‘Titanic’ is 3,800 meters below the seabed. The time taken by the submarine ‘Titan’ from the surface of the sea to the location of the wreck is 2 1/2 hours. All contact with the submarine was lost and the submarine disappeared at 1 hour and 45 minutes.
At the time the submarine was reported missing, US Navy vessels in the surrounding sea area heard the sound of an explosion through sonar technology. The Navy and the Coast Guard now say that the sound they heard on the 19th was the explosion of the submarine.
The submarine’s oxygen was enough for 96 hours, which ended yesterday (22) evening. Accordingly, the fate of the five people in the submarine was also decided.
Yesterday (22) evening, a French diver who joined the search operation for the submarine found the lower parts of the ‘Titan’ submarine and parts of the tail near the wreckage of the Titanic. Although not confirmed, they are suspected to be parts of the plane. (Reuters)
