A senior official of the Sri Lankan Civil Aviation Authority said that 42 pilots of Sri Lankan Airlines handed over letters of resignation last week and 85 pilots have applied for certification letters from the Aviation Authority.
A Sri Lankan Airline pilot receives a monthly salary of about $10,000, but the dollar value is calculated at a low level of 225 rupees, the official said, adding that a pilot of other international airlines receives a tax-free salary of $30,000 to $40,000, which is calculated at 370 rupees.
The official stated that there are about 240 pilots working at Sri Lankan Airlines and if about 80 pilots leave, the airline will face a severe crisis by the middle of this year said that the dollar has been calculated at 295 rupees since last December. (Lankadeepa)
