Sri Lanka will face England in their third and final Test match of the series at the Kensington Oval London from today. England led by Ollie Pope having already secured the series with two convincing wins, will look to complete a clean sweep. They made a clean sweep against West Indies in their previous Test series and want to improve ICC Test championship ranking. England moved to fifth place after two wins against Sri Lanka while Sri Lanka went down to seventh place in the ICC Test championship and winning this Test to get points is important for Sri Lanka team.
However Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will aim to restore some pride by ending the series on a high note. The historic venue of The Oval have unforgettable memories for Sri Lanka as they scored a remarkable 10 wicket win over England in their last Test at this venue way back in 1998 August, exactly 26 years ago when Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya scored a brilliant knock of 213 and Aravinda de Silva hit 152 to make 591 all out to reply to England first innings total of 445 all out. However, match winner Muttiah Muralitharan produced his best bowling performance of the match bag of 16 wickets (7/155 and 9/65 ) to record a fantastic victory. Today Jayasuriya the Interim Head Coach having a good batting record at this venue wants to see improvement of Sri Lanka batting to give a good fight against England.
