The novel “The Seven moons of Maali Almeida” written by Shehan Karunathilake has won the Booker award this year.
The Booker Prize is considered the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for literature and is the first time a Sri Lankan has received this award.
His first book, Chinaman, also won a significant readership.

“Fraud, corruption and racism have not given us anything. Sri Lanka will soon realize that we cannot go far with these ideologies.”
Shehan Karunathileka said in the speech held after receiving the award.
