Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said they will provide rice at a lower price than the existing control price. The minister said that there is a big difference between the price of rice at the time President Ranil Wickramasinghe took over the country and the current price of rice and said that now there is an opportunity to buy a kilo of white kekulu rice between 125 and 130 rupees.
The Minister of Agriculture said this while attending the news conference held at the Presidential Media Center yesterday (21). The minister said that it has already been announced that sufficient money will be provided from the treasury for the purchase of paddy. Accordingly, plans have already been made to purchase the paddy harvest in the ‘Yala’ season.
Mahinda Amaraweera said that the damage caused by wild animals to agriculture is also considerable and that special attention has been paid to that. Also, Mr Amaraweera said that over ninety-three million coconuts were destroyed by Relawn last year. (Lankadeepa)
