President Ranil Wickremesinghe made a special statement in Parliament today stating that the total loss incurred by several government institutions by the last quarter of this year is about 4,000 billion rupees.
Accordingly, the President further mentioned that the work of restructuring the state enterprises, which have become a burden to the country, has been started and the public has had to bear the loss of those institutions directly and indirectly for many decades.
The President also mentioned that by the end of the second quarter of 2022, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has made a loss of 1,057 billion rupees, the Ceylon Electricity Board has made a loss of 261 billion rupees and the Sri Lankan Airlines has made a loss of 799 billion rupees.
The President stated that the government is aware of the poverty of certain sections of the society and has identified them and taken steps to ensure their food security.
In the meantime, the President further said that all steps have been taken to provide fertilizers and seeds for the upcoming season.
