Mr Prasad Kulatunga, Secretary of Ceylon Automobile Importers Association, told the media that with the increase of dollar reserves in the country, the government has been requested to provide necessary facilities for the import of vehicles.
Mr Kulatunga mentioned that although a request was made to the Governor of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, they have not received permission to study the vehicles so far.
He said that the vehicle importers expect that the ban on vehicle imports will be eased in this year’s budget.
He further mentioned that consumers as well as importers of vehicles are facing severe difficulties as vehicles have not been imported for three years. (Lankadeepa)
