State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that if the import restrictions are to be relaxed, it should be done with more thorough investigation and management.

The minister pointed out that with the strengthening of the rupee against the dollar, the prices of imported goods and services, including medicines, food, and consumer goods, should gradually decrease in the future.

The minister further said that although the strengthening of the rupee has some effect on exports at the moment, it is a temporary situation and due to the decrease in the prices of raw materials and inputs used for export goods, there will be no negative impact on the export goods in the future.
