The Sri Lanka Medical Association informs the public that they should reduce outdoor travel between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm when the sun is shining. Its chairman specialist Dr Vinya Ariyaratne states that steps should be taken to prevent dehydration in young children, pregnant mothers and people receiving treatment for various diseases. She says “You should drink more water than on other days and avoid sweet drinks”.
Apart from the essential matters, the expert also points out that by preventing exposure to sunlight between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm, the damage caused by heat can be avoided. The Sri Lanka Medical Association further requests that people should refrain from holding outdoor events on these days using school children.
