Marine Drive will be closed until further notice due to the removal of the dilapidated passenger flyover near Bambalapitiya railway station, police said. As the passenger flyover is in a dilapidated and dangerous condition, the police said that due to the commencement of its demolition work yesterday (5), this road has been closed until further notice.
The police are also requesting the public to use alternative routes for drivers using this road. Accordingly, vehicles coming from Wellawatta on the coastal road to Kollupitiya can travel along Bambalapitiya Railway Road to Galle Road and then travel to Kollupitiya via Galle Road.
Vehicles travelling from Kollupitiya to Wellawatta on the Coastal Road can turn at Glen Arbor Place come to Galle Road and proceed along Duplication Road to Wellawatta. The police further said that apart from the closed area, vehicles can travel on both sides of the coastal road.
