A cabinet proposal to give provincial governors the power to suspend the use of schools and school premises for political activities has been approved.
The related proposal was reportedly given to the Cabinet by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, according to Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena.
The Minister added, “This decision has been taken in consideration of the proposals made by various parties regarding the holding of political meetings under the guise of providing various aid.” Several philanthropists and donors have made significant donations to the Sri Lankan school system.
