Sri Lanka ‘A’ team opener Nishan Madushka scored a double century yesterday (02), which was the third day of the first four-day Test cricket match against England Lions at the Galle International Stadium. Madushka completed his double century with 4 runs scored by pulling a Tom Abel ball.
Madushka had spent 515 minutes in his innings when he crossed that mark on the 334th ball he faced. Nishan Madushka’s double century, which was coloured by 24 fours and 2 sixes, is recorded as the fifth double century scored by a batsman in the history of Sri Lanka ‘A’ matches. Earlier, Malinda Warnapura (206), Dinesh Chandimal (244), Dimuth Karunaratne (212) and Pathum Nissanka (217) have become double-centuries before Madushka.
The Sri Lanka A team started the second innings from 331 runs behind in the first innings due to Madushka’s double century and the contribution of the rest of the batsmen. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka A team is 249 points ahead of the England Lions team by 7 wickets and today is the 4th and last day of the match.

When play was stopped yesterday, skipper Nipun Dhananjaya was unbeaten on 89 runs and double-century winner Nishan Madushka was unbeaten on 207 runs. Lakshitha Manasinghe, who came to the field as a defensive batsman the previous day, scored the first half-century for the Sri Lankan team, who had scored 228 runs for the loss of one wicket when the day started yesterday. Manasinghe, who scored 73 runs in 107 balls, left the field at 322 runs as the second wicket of the Sri Lankan team.
Then Nuwanidu Fernando, who joined Nishan Madushka for the third wicket, tired the England bowlers by recording another century. Nuwanidu Fernando scored 80 runs off 90 balls and Jack Carson’s ball hit the stumps. Then Nishan Madushka and skipper Nipun Dhananjaya maintained a 145-run partnership for the 4th wicket.
The English bowlers were attacked so much by the Sri Lankan batsmen that Liam Patterson scored 206 runs in 42 overs. (Divaina)
