The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries Mahinda Amaraweera instructed the officials not to give any permission for the reclamation of paddy land.
Most of the fallow fields are in the Western Province, so many people are asking for permission to reclaim paddy land, but the government has taken a policy decision not to allow land reclamation, so the minister instructed the relevant officials not to make any recommendations for reclamation of paddy land.
The minister said that he had even pointed out to President Ranil Wickremesinghe that some people had deliberately allowed to encroach on the paddy lands on the sides of the road and also emphasized that the President had instructed him not to allow the cultivation of paddy lands.
