A Japanese company has agreed with the government to clean and beautify Beira Lake in Colombo for free.
The concerned company has expressed this agreement after a discussion between Mr Ruwan Wijayawardena, the President’s senior advisor on climate change, and the company’s representatives held at the President’s Secretariat last week.
The work is to be completed within 06 months from the date of commencement of the project and the total cost of the project is 3 million dollars. It is to be received in Sri Lanka as a grant from the concerned company.
This project will be started according to the request of Venerable Dr Kirinde Assaji, President of Gangarama Viharaya, to clean the Beira lake as it has become polluted and smelly.
The related agreements are to be signed by the first week of February and the project will start after that. (Lankadeepa)
