Mrs Hyacinth Wijesinghe, who worked as the coach of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2022 Asian Netball Championship, has decided to no longer work as the national coach of the Sri Lankan Netball team.
The Sri Lanka Netball Federation had taken steps to hold the interview for the appointment of a head coach for the 2023 World Cup in Colombo on the 22nd.
Hyacinth Wijesinghe and two other female coaches had submitted applications for that and last weekend (20) Hyacinth Wijesinghe called a press conference and said that she withdrew the application submitted for the World Cup head coach.
She added that she decided not to work as a coach under this administration anymore due to the reduction of the monthly allowance promised by the Sri Lanka Netball administration aiming at the Asian Netball Championship and due to undue pressure from some officials of the netball administration. Mrs Wijesinghe is one of the senior netball coaches in the country and she is a strong player who has represented Sri Lanka in 3 Asian Championships and 2 World Championships.
In addition, Sri Lanka managed to win the Asian Netball Championship in 2001 and 2022 under her training. (Divaina)
