For decades, the Latin American state of Honduras tried to forget the diplomatic relations with Taiwan and start new relations with China.

China considers Taiwan a part of China. Therefore, the relationship of other countries with Taiwan is a reason for China’s opposition. Honduras has maintained diplomatic relations with Taiwan for decades, ignoring China. However, the media has reported that the relationship is now completely over.

The state of Honduras is suffering from economic crises. About a month ago, the government of Honduras asked the government of Taiwan to give them a loan of 2.5 billion US dollars.

However, Taiwan rejected the request. Political analysts explain that this may be why the Honduran government decided to end relations with Taiwan and get closer to China. (Reuters)
