The Colombo Municipal Council says there is a risk of spreading infectious diseases due to the contamination of water sources with the current flood situation. Chief Medical Officer Dr Geethika Ratnawardena noted there is a risk of spreading infectious diseases such as diarrhoea and rat fever due to contamination of water sources.
She mentioned that whenever possible take steps to drink boiled water and fruits, vegetables and herbs should be cleaned very well before use. She further mentioned that fruits, vegetables and herbs should be cleaned very well before use and for that, advice can be sought from public health inspectors.
