Finance Ministry Secretary K.M. Mahinda Siriwardena said that the value of the government’s unpaid bills is about 200 billion rupees.

The secretary mentioned that the government is unable to pay the bills due to construction and other institutions.

For that reason, the Finance Ministry Secretary stated that the government is bringing new fiscal and tax policies to generate revenue and without making sacrifices it is not possible to increase the revenue of the state.

Also, last April, the first circular was issued to the line ministries to take all possible steps to reduce their expenses and some results of that action can be seen now, Finance Ministry Secretary K.M. Mahinda Siriwardena further mentioned.
