The Finance Ministry Secretary says that the government’s income is not enough to pay the monthly salaries of government employees and pensioners and maintain social welfare.
Joining a discussion held at the Ministry of Finance today (23), Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena stated that about 154 billion rupees will be spent to maintain social welfare including salaries.
The Ministry Secretary mentioned that the state income is only 145 billion rupees and they will have to take loans to find the remaining money.
The Secretary of the Ministry further stated that the 154 billion rupees do not include loan interest, loan payments and other expenses and the country’s economy is at such a severe level that is why reforms were made in the public finance sector.
